Wired & Fired Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How does it work?

Customers come in and choose their piece of pottery, the prices range from $5.50-$60.   When each person begins to paint, it is $8/hour/person.  The hourly studio fee is pro-rated, so if you only paint for half an hour, that is all you pay for.

  1. Other studios don’t have a studio fee, why do you?

Wired and Fired is aware that other studios do not have a studio fee and some do that are the same or higher than ours.  However, other studios build the studio fee into the price of the pieces of their pottery.  Our pottery prices are lower and our studio fee is pro-rated, giving you more control over the cost of your piece.

  1. Do you have pottery wheels or clay?

No, Wired and Fired is a painting-only studio with over 200 different pieces of bisque shapes to choose from.  We have plates, mugs, sushi pieces, banks, figurines, boxes, home décor and seasonal pieces.

  1. Do you have classes?

No, Wired and Fired is open to anyone at anytime, and does not hold a class schedule.  We teach each table of customers how to paint.  Our studio assistants are there to help you get the desired look of your masterpiece.

  1. Do I need a reservation?

We highly recommend reservations for those wanting to come and paint for two reasons: first, reservations are given first priority over walk-ins and a table can be awaiting your arrival.  Second, sometimes Wired and Fired is rented in it’s entireity for a private party and we will be closed to the general public.  Calling ahead assures you that we will be open for you.  Making a reservation does not cost you anything, just a phone call a day in advance is usually ample time.

  1. Are the paints safe? What do I wear?

Yes, the paints are safe.  They are non-toxic and wash out of all clothes.  It is perfectly safe for children or women who are pregnant to handle them.

  1. Who is a customer?

Anyone can paint at Wired and Fired, from infants putting their footprints on pieces to children of any age and adults alike.  No art background or previous experience is needed.  We welcome all.

  1. Can I bring in food and beverage?

Absolutely, in fact, we encourage it.  Food and beverage of any sort is welcome, including alcohol.  We carry all of the menus of our local restaurants to order take out, or you can bring in snacks or even have a pizza delivered.  Bring in bottles of wine (no corkage fee), a thermos full of coffee or margaritas.  Wired and Fired does sell bottled water, juices and soda, should you get thirsty.

  1. What if I don’t have an art background or an artistic mind?

That’s ok!  We have a table full of stamps, stencils, and ideas for you to copy from or use to stimulate your imagination.  We are here to help and there are plenty of sample pieces around for you to see painted by our own staff.

  1. Do you offer party rates?

We do!  A party can be considered anything from 4 to 45 people.  We have a video on this website explaining both our children’s and adult party packages.  Party reservations must be made a minimum of 3 days in advance.

  1. Do you have a private party room?

No, Wired and Fired does not have a private room but sits all groups together in their own special area.  To have the entire studio for a party, a minimum of 30 persons is needed with a two-week advance notice.

  1. Do you have special occurring events?

Every Tuesday at Wired and Fired is Ladies Night.  From 6- 10pm, ladies (of all ages) are welcome to paint at $4/hour/painter instead of $8/hour/painter.  No reservations are necessary.
Every Wednesday at Wired and Fired is Family Night.  From 5-10pm, families are welcome, where for each adult painting, 2 children (10 and under) paint for free. No reservations are necessary.

  1. Do you offer any summer camps?

No, Wired and Fired found that summer camps did not work well.  Instead, we offer our Wednesday morning Drop n’ Shop program.  From 10am-12pm, potty trained children can be dropped off at Wired and Fired for art projects and story time.  The cost is $20 per child/$10 for additional siblings.  We require reservations for Drop n’ Shop as we do not have it every week.

  1. Do you have any discounts?

We have a coupon on our website that is available to everyone every time you paint.  It gives you a half hour of studio time after you have painted for one hour.  We also have a frequent painter program, where every time you paint, you get a punch in your frequent painter card.  After 5 punches, you receive a free hour of studio time.

  1. What age is appropriate for children to paint?

Children three and up are typically able to paint. For children five and under we like to incorporate handprints on their work. We also do handprints or footprints for infants and toddlers. These pieces make excellent gifts!

  1. Where do we park?

We generally recommend that you first try to find street parking. We also have a parking lot located behind our store. The entrance to the parking lot is located just around the corner from the storefront on North Highland Ave.  The driveway is right next to Chico’s clothing.

  1. Are your pieces safe to use in the oven?

Yes, but you most avoid extreme temperature changes. Pieces must start in a cold oven. When removing pieces from the oven avoid placing them on a cool surface. We recommend that you place hot pieces on a towel to avoid shocking them. Extreme temperature changes may cause pieces to crack and then they will no longer be food safe.

  1. What if everyone in my group does not paint?

We only guarantee seating for paying customers. Anyone is welcome to come and we often have children’s parties where adults attend but do not paint. However attending persons not painting will be asked to stand in the event that we need seats for painters.

  1. Will your staff assist me in my painting project?

Our staff is trained to instruct our customers how to perform a number of painting techniques. We will gladly demonstrate a particular technique and make every effort to explain in a way that makes the process a simple to understand and duplicate as possible. We do not encourage our staff to paint on your piece. We feel that it is a more rewarding experience if our customers complete their project on their own. Our staff is available to do custom painting projects at an additional fee.
